| Cross–country |
 |
One fine summer's day
under blue skies
the whole school
did a great cross–country run.
The whole of Wirral
lay bright and clear
under a sweet sun and the run
Was a regular long–distance obstacle course.
Pounding along in ammunition boots
we saw two lads
sheer off, start running for the sunset
tiny figures diminishing in distance.
They ran the length of Wirral
down to Wallasey,
dropped with exhaustion
Then someone
turned them about
and doubled them back aboard.
Fun as it was
when they took off
they could not sit
to eat for several days. |
