| Pelt of
the Ten Tines |
 |
Here is
the cured hide of the ten–tined elk
Taken and cut into careful portions
Each slice chosen to dress a spirit drum.
This is father of many spirit drums —
How many may only be seen when my knife cuts air
But each noble drum will be an individual
Able to speak freely in its own tones —
Able to lead songs of many nations.
When all these elk–drums sing together
Their voices will be mighty in the land
Then will the King Elk be joined
In one great family hide. |
